Ave Maris Stella
Hail, bright star of ocean,
God’s own Mother blest,
Ever sinless Virgin,
Gate of heavenly rest.
Taking that sweet Ave
Which from Gabriel came,
Peace confirm within us,
Changing Eva’s name.
Break the captives’ fetters,
Light on blindness pour,
All our ills expelling,
Every bliss implore.
Show thyself a Mother;
May the Word Divine,
Born for us thy Infant,
Hear our prayers through thine.
Virgin all excelling,
Mildest of the mild,
Freed from guilt, preserve us,
Pure and undefiled.
Keep our life all spotless,
Make our way secure,
Till we find in Jesus,
Through the highest heaven
To the Almighty Three,
Father, Son and Spirit,
One same glory be. Amen.
Prayer to Our Lady, Star of the Sea
Our petition: We ask God, in faith, that this hurricane weakens and/or turns out into the Atlantic.
O, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel,
Fruit of the Vine, splendorous of Heaven.
Blessed Mother of the Son of God,
assist me in this my necessity.
O, Star of the Sea, help me
and show herein you are my mother.
O, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth,
I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart
to succor me in my necessity.
There are none that can withstand your power,
O, show me here you are my mother.
O, Mary, conceived without sin,
pray for us who have recourse to Thee.
Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands.
I offer three of each: Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
And for each of your twelve stars, on twelve beads, I pray:
Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Help and Protect us! Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands.
Abba, GOD THE FATHER, Lord of the Universe,
“Do not visit us with Your Wrath. Help mankind unite in dependency upon You. We beg You for Your Protection and Your Provision. Please redirect and weaken any storms or hurricanes and send them out to sea.”
“Let the threat of the storm help us to recognize our dependency on You and not depend solely on our own efforts and ingenuity. Let this current threat melt us so You are able to redirect and weaken the evil in hearts.”
“We turn to You for help. We know you listen to the humble prayer for assistance. Help us recognize You as and allow You to be – the Lord of the present moment.”
“We pray that the enemies of Christianity are disarmed.”

A Prayer in the Storm
God of the Universe, at the dawn of creation, your Spirit breathed on the waters, making them the wellspring of all holiness. You created the oceans and rivers, and all that dwell within them, and at your word the wind and the waves were born.
The seasons follow your plan, and the tides rise and fall on your command. In both calm and storm, you are with us.
On the Sea of Galilee, even when the disciples began to fear, Jesus showed that he was Lord over the waters by rebuking the storms, so that all would know that even the wind and the waves obey him.
Creator God, we ask you to calm the wind and the waves of the approaching hurricane, and spare those in its path from harm. Help those who are in its way to reach safety. Open our hearts in generosity to all who need help in the coming days.
In all things and in all times, help us to remember that even when life seems dark and stormy, you are in the boat with us, guiding us to safety.
ORATIO IMPERATA PRAYER AGAINST STORM OR HURRICANE
Almighty God, Lord of the universe, Creator of everything, we come to You, seeking Your divine protection as we face our fears and confront the threats that cause us anxiety
After every invocation let us say:
“DELIVER YOUR PEOPLE LORD”.
From strong hurricane Irma
From relentless rains
From destructive earthquakes
From drought and pests
From deadly floods and storm surges
From red tides and fish kills
From deadly lightning
From violence and wars
From corruption and sin
From criminality and terrorism
From selfishness and indifference
From marauders and looters
From flood water challenges of drowning, nuclear plant wastes, waste water, chemicals, bacteria, electrocutions, snakes, and alligators)
Divine Jesus, You calmed the storms and walked over the waters. Give us fine weather. Shield us from distress. Drive away from our land all calamities and disasters of nature. We entrust ourselves to You now and forever.
Our Lady of Fatima Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us.

Prayer from Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea Website, Key West, Florida
“Creator God, we ask you to calm the wind and the waves of the approaching hurricane and spare those in its path from harm. Help those who are in its way to reach safety. Prayer for Hurricane Season
O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen.
A PRAYER FOR HURRICANE SEASON
(Our Lady of Prompt Succor)
Our Father in Heaven through the intercession of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, spare us during this Hurricane season from all harm. Protect us and our homes from all disasters of nature. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Another Prayer to Avert Storms and Hurricanes
Father, all the elements of nature obey your command. Calm the storms and hurricanes that threaten us and turn our fear of your power into praise of your goodness. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Collect Prayer from the Mass for the Aversion of a Hurricane
O God, to whose commands all the elements give obedience, we humbly entreat you, that the stilling of fearsome storms may turn a powerful menace into an occasion for us to praise you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to St Barbara for Protection
St Barbara is one of the fourteen holy helpers of emergency situations
St Barbara, venerated by soldiers and invoked as a protector against lightning, storms, hurricanes and sudden death
FEAST DAY: DECEMBER 4th
According to tradition, St Barbara was martyred at the end of the fourth century in Antioch under the emperor Maximian. St Barbara spent almost her entire life confined in the tower of a fortress. When he heard that she had been converted to the Christian faith even in confinement, her father, who was a pagan, not only denounced her but also condemned her to death. He himself was the executioner and cut off her head with a sword. Immediately afterwards, a terrible storm arose and the executioner was incinerated by a bolt of lightning.
St Barbara, you are stronger than the tower of a fortress and the fury of hurricanes. Do not let lightning hit me, thunder frighten me or the roar of canons jolt my courage or bravery. Stay always by my side so that I may confront all the storms and battles of my life with my head held high and a serene countenance. Winning all the struggles, may I, aware of doing my duty, be grateful to you, my protector, and render thanks to God, the Creator of heaven, earth and nature who has the power to dominate the fury of the storm and to mitigate the cruelty of war.
St Barbara, pray for us.
Prayer for Protection in a Time of Storm or Danger (With Candle)
A candle, around which the family has gathered for prayer, is lighted.
Lord and Holy Protector,
like the disciples who were caught in their tiny boat
in the midst of a mighty storm,
we come together to seek Your help.
We are fearful as we are surrounded by danger.
We feel helpless and small
before the great power of this perilous time,
a power which is beyond our control.
While everything seems dark and dangerous,
we place our trust in You, our Lord and God.
Sheltered here in our home,
we are also shielded by Your love
against all that might harm us.
We know that You hear all prayers
so we now, filled with confidence,
lift up our petitions to You, our God.
pause for silent prayer
we fear for our home,
for our lives and for all we hold dear.
Your sacred blessing is upon this home
and upon each of us as well.
We are secure in the power of that blessing.
May the saving power of the Cross of Your Son, Jesus,
encircle us and our home.
May all evil, all harm and injury,
be repelled by that sacred sign.
May the light of this candle
be for us a holy sign
of Your Divine Presence that fills our home
in the midst of this danger.
Lord and Creator of Storms and of Rainbows,
be with us in this time of danger.
(To be prayed on ordinary rosary beads)
